Man age of 55, stabbed girlfriend to death in Century Village apartment
On Monday, a man called 911 saying his roommate, Robert Wayne Murray, was suicidal because his girlfriend would not talk to him, by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Within an hour before the call, detectives found the body of Murray’s girlfriend, 63-year-old Jenie Barbato, stabbed to death in her Century Village apartment, about a mile from where Murray lived.
Behind detectives arrived at the suburban
West Palm Beach
residence, they discovered that not only did Murray not have a male roommate but that the 911 call also was made from Murray’s phone.
When deputies spoke with Murray’s actual roommate on Monday evening, she told them he left their residence just before 10 p.m. and noted that a slaughter knife was missing from their kitchen.
Murray, who is accused of fatally stabbing Barbato, faces one count of murder and another of armed burglary, according to court records. Circuit Judge Laura Johnson ordered that he be held without bail during his first appearance hearing Wednesday morning.
Monday, PBSO was called to a house on the 100 blocks of Coventry I, just north of Okeechobee Boulevard and west of Florida’s Turnpike, for a wellbeing check after someone reported a broken front window to Barbato’s apartment.
Inside, they found the 63-year-old woman bounded by blood with a number of stab wounds in her back. Staff from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office strong-minded that she had been stabbed at least 11 times, according to the report.
